Learning Community

The University of Texas at San Antonio is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through research and discovery, teaching and learning, community engagement and public service. As an institution of access and excellence, UTSA embraces multicultural traditions and serves as a center for intellectual and creative resources as well as a catalyst for socioeconomic development and the commercialization of intellectual property – for Texas, the nation, and the world.

UTSA is acknowledged as one of the top degree-producing institutions for minorities in the United States. It has been recognized for its excellence in assuring that students from all backgrounds succeed. Currently, more than 70% of UTSA students come from groups underrepresented in higher education including those of Hispanic, African American, Asian, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, and Native American descent.

UTSA graduate programs provide a fostering, supportive community atmosphere within a secure, collegial, productive environment. Students from a wide variety of diverse backgrounds have graduated from the DRS/CMB PhD program, and many have progressed directly into postdoctoral positions at very prestigious institutions or laboratory settings.

NDRB is a vibrant department of scientific discovery and academic excellence. A key to our success has been our ability to recruit dynamic faculty at both the senior and junior levels, thus ensuring that our research and educational programs will continue to grow in excellence with an infusion of new ideas and energy.

Our mission is to conduct high impact internationally recognized research and to educate and train the next generation of leaders in biological sciences. As a department of neuroscientists, and developmental and regenerative biologists, we focus on understanding organismal, tissue and cellular function from molecules to behavior in health and disease.
